My visit to Arid Lands 5-20-06
I visited Arid Lands today. My first time since Kristy passed on (God bless her, we miss her). Bob and Toni, a couple fellow Tucsonans, have taken over the legacy.
Little has changed. Arid Lands is still a fine source of exotic succulent plants. They are not real strong on cacti, but I came away with a couple new Copiapoas, a gorgeous Astrophytum and an Ariocarpus. I also took some pics of some beautiful Melocactus, one of my favorite Cacti genera.
Where they are strong is in the other succulents. Adenium, Euphorbia, Aloe, Haworthia, Gasteria, Dorstenia, you name it they got it! The large variety of Euphorbias was incredible!
The staff was helpfull and friendly and graciously consented to let me take all the pictures I wanted to. Unfortunately, it was a very sunny day and the light and shadow contrasts made some pictures unusable. I think maybe I need to visit greenhouses on cloudy days to have more even lighting.
You can visit Arid Lands in Tucson on Saturdays from 8:00 to 4:30 at 3560 Bilby Road or visit their website at www.aridlands.com
