This Saturday I started out planning to find a very cool Saguaro I took a picture of years ago. Now that I have a decent digital camera I wanted to replace the old polaroid snapshot I had. I spent a couple hours driving up and down dirt roads northwest of Tucson looking for it. Even tore a hole in my jeans slipping through a barbed wire fence to get to one that looked like it. But alas, I couldn't find it :-) I was bummed!
But, Bachs Cactus Nursery was on my way home. I stopped in and immediately felt all better :-) And joy of joys I had my camera with me! Bachs is one of the earliest cacti and succulent nurseries I visited in Tucson. They mostly cater to landscapers but have a nice retail greenhouse too. They carry all the usual fare with a nice selection of exotics thrown in. And I love their Specimen House.
Unfortunately I only had one memory card with me or I would have taken a whole lot more pictures. It was also the day before Easter and very busy so unfortunately I couldn't find anyone free to ID some of this stuff for me. If you have any ID's please contact me HERE
You can visit Bachs Cactus Nursery at 8602 North Thornydale Road in Tucson. They also have a website with some info about them but don't do e-commerce. It is www.bachs-cacti.com
Pictures in the Specimen House
The specimen house contains some of their finest mature plants. These plants are fantastic! It's neat to see what they can look like well grown.
The main retail greenhouse is just one of about two dozen on the property . The rest are dedicated to wholesale. Still they must not have enough room to fill all their Golden Barrel orders. They've got almost a third of this giant greenhouse dedicated to E. Grusonii.
