Boyce Thompson Arboretum

An Echinopsis terscheckii in bloom in the Cactus Garden
I had heard of this place and wanted to visit someday. One Saturday in early August I found the perfect reason. I had just bought a new digital SLR and wanted to try it out. I'm not dissapointed with the place or the camera. Sadly it was a very hot and humid day so I spent most of my time, only a couple hours, in the Cactus Garden. I left there soaked with sweat and exhausted. But I got a few good pics.
Boyce Thompson, now a State Park, comprises 320 acres of magnificent gardens highlighting the flora of the deserts of the world. There are several themed gardens and two miles of hiking trails along with an exhibit building known as the Smith Interpretive Center with two attached greenhouses and a classroom. They are presently working on a Childrens Garden which should be finished soon.
Boyce Thompson is about an hour east of Phoenix and two hours north of Tucson on Highway 60 just outside of Superior. They also have a website. It is http://ag.arizona.edu/BTA/
