Cereus aethiops

Native to Brazil, Uruguay, and northern Argentina, Cereus aethiops is a beautiful blue stemmed columnar cacti that produces clumps seven feet high and five feet wide. The jet black spines contrast nicely with the blue stem, especially on the new growth. In winter it turn a pretty purple. This one unfortunately gets too much shade and didn't grow much last year. I'm thinking about moving it where it gets more light. All the better to get it to flower too. Another night bloomer, it gets large white flowers with purple sepals followed by purple fruits.
