Cleistocactus winteri

Native to Argentina and Uruguay, Cleistocactus winteri The "Golden Rats Tail" is a columnar cacti to 6 feet high and 2.5 inches around in the wild. But in cultivation they are mostly grown as a hanging planter subject and the stems rarely reach an inch around and 3 feet long. Still they are striking when you have multiple stems with fine golden spines cascading out of the pot. Especially so when salmon pink flowers adorn the sides of the stems in spring and summer. Cutting are very easy to root and I've planted several in a hanging pot. I've read they grow fast, so hopefully by midsummer I'll have a pic to share
For now, since the only normal C. winteri I have are only small cuttings, I'm highlighting my litle cristate instead. It was grafted but I cut the grafting stock shorter and rerooted it. It looks better this way. It will be interesting to see if it flowers. Below is a potted normal C. winteri at B & B Cactus Farm.
