Copiapoa echinoides var. dura

Also from northern Chile, Copiapoa Echinoides var. dura is a solitary or clumping globular cactus to 5 inches around and 8 inches high. Its jet black spines turn white as the plant ages and the purplish color fades to green in poor light. It produces 1.5 inch yellow flowers followed by red fruit.
I got this one at Arid Lands in May. I love the purple color and black spines. Hopefully it's a clumper.
