Copiapoa hypogaea

Native to the Antofagasta and Chaņaral regions of northern
Chile, Copiapoa hypogaea is a globular clumping cacti with heads no more than three inches across that turn a reddish brown in strong light. In time it forms a low growing mound. Like other Copiapoas the flowers are yellow.
Mine is a just a little guy just two inches across with several offsets. I'll try and propagate the offsets next year. The lower picture is a closeup of the spines and beautiful epidermis.
