Echinocactus texensis
"Horse Crippler"

Echinocactus texensis, from Northern Mexico, New Mexico and Texas, is one of the smaller Echinocactus. It only gets to be about 12 inches across and 8 inches high. Because it is low growing, hard to see and has some wicked hooked spines, it's earned the name "Horse Crippler". This one has some of the nicer flowers of the genus, it produces pretty pink 2 inch flowers in spring.
Another Miles2go purchase, I liked the spination and noticeable ribbing which is unusual for a barrel this small. The plant is only about 2 inches around. It will be a garden planting in spring. Xenomorf, a fellow member of the Davesgarden.com gardening forums allows me to use his pictures on the site. Thanks Xeno :-) Below are pics of the flowers. Also check out a gallery of some of his best pics in the Photo Galleries/Friends section.
