Echinocereus brandegeei
"Strawberry Cactus"

Found in Baja California and several of the islands in the Sea of Cortez, Echinocereus brandegeei is a clumping gold spined cactus with stems up to 3 feet long and 3 inches thick. In time it forms clumps of sometimes prostrate stems with erect tips. Another plant with a similar growth habit is Stenocereus erucs or "Creeping Devil". Large pink flowers with red throats are produced in spring. The fruits are spiny and bright red hence the common name "Strawberry Cactus".
