Echinocereus pulchellus

Native to northern Mexico, Echinocereus pulchellus is a small, sometimes solitary, sometimes clustering cactus up to 2 inches across and 4 inches tall. It produces stunning, large, striped pink flowers in spring. It's reported that this plant will suck itself down almost flush with the ground in dry or cold weather, and then burst back up when the warmth and rains come. So, if you have one of these and it seems to nearly die over winter, don't give up on it.
