Echinocereus viereckii ssp. morricalii
The Slick Hedgehog

From Nuevo Leon and Monterrey, Mexico, Echinocereus viereckii ssp. morricalii is a nearly spineless, green shiny clumper with stems up to 20 inches long and three inches across. The large magenta flowers appear in spring and are some of the finest in the genus.
I got this one from Tohono Chul Park in Tucson and took off the two offsets. I'm going to grow them seperately and see how fast they grow and offset. On the way home from a trip to the Desert Museum I spotted the flowering one below in someones yard.
