Echinopsis spachiana
"Golden Torch"

Found in wetsren Bolivia and Argentina, Echinopsis spachiana is a basally branching golden spined cactus to 7 foot tall. The stems are usually no more than a couple inches thick, but with it's upright habit and golden spines it makes a fine landscape plant. It bears the typical large white flowers of other Echinopsis species.
I have three little cuttings of this in the yard that haven't done anything, but then found the one above at Home Depot. Only 6 inches tall and it's allready branching. Maybe if I set this potted one next to the ones in the ground I can shame them into doing something :-) The picture below is of a nice one in a neighbors yard. I tried to get closeups of the flowers but couldn't get them focused. Unfortunately the flowers were pointed away from the sun so the pictures were darkened by the bright backgound.
