Epithelantha micromeris "Button Cactus"

A small one in my collection
Epithelantha micromeris inhabits a corridor along the border in Arizona, New Mexico, west Texas and Mexico. It is found in desert grasslands at 3 to 4 thousand feet in elevation. It is a tiny plant, averaging only an inch in diameter and forms small clumps over time. It's body is covered with very short pretty white spines. Tiny pale pink flowers appear at the top which are followed by long thin red fruits, hence one common name "Little Chilito".
One of my favorites among the dwarves of the cacti world, this tiny beauty is yet another reminder that the variety of life on Earth is astounding! I'm growing it on carefully with a couple of it's cousins in the same pot. I hope I'm not "Putting all my eggs in the same basket." as they say. But then if anything goes wrong I'll just visit Miles2go and get more.
