Ferocactus emoryi
"Covilles Barrel Cactus"

Native to Arizona and northern Mexico, Ferocactus emoryi is a magnificently spined cacti tha can reach 8 feet in height and 30 inches around. The red and yellow funnel shaped flowers can be quite large, as much as 3 inches across, and appear in summer. I liked this one for the tuberculed look and gnarly spines. It goes in the garden someday. Too bad I'll never live to see it get 8 feet high, but wouldn't that be something?
Xenomorf, a fellow member of the Davesgarden.com gardening forums allows me to use his pictures on the site. Thanks Xeno :-) Below are pics of the flower. Also check out a gallery of some of his best pics in the Galleries/Friends section.
