Ferocactus hamatacanthus
"Turks Head Barrel"

Found in southern Texas, New Mexico and northern Mexico, Ferocactus hamatacanthus is one of the smaller barrels, only reaching a width of 12 inches and two feet high. It has long thin hooked spines and is known to occasionally offset. It's also reported to be the most cold hardy of the Feros, surviving temperatures down to zero degrees. Like many Feros it produces yellow flowers.
