Ferocactus latispinus
"Devils Tongue Barrel"

Native to northern Mexico, Ferocactus latispinus is a low globular cacti with thick hooked red or amber central spines that can reach 16 inches in diameter. In late fall and sometimes through the winter it produces yellow pink or magenta flowers. I also have a pretty gold spined form known as Ferocactus latispinus var. flavispinus.
I planted the one above in my yard ten years ago and it's now about 10 inches across. I'm thrilled it's a magenta flowered specimen, magenta is my favorite flower color.

variety, flavispinus
