Ferocactus pilosus var. pringlei
"Mexican Fire Barrel"

From central Mexico, Ferocactus pilosus var. pringlei is a sometimes clumping barrel cactus to 8 feet high and 24 inches across. With it's bright red spines it is a very popular landscape plant.
This one came from Home Depot and goes somewhere in the garden. It was labled F. stainesii which is synonymous with F. pilosus. I chose the var. pringlei because pictures I've seen have many more hairy radials than the type species, and this one is pretty hairy.
