Mammillaria magnifica

Found in the states of Puebla and Morelos, Mexico, Mammillaria magnifica is a clumping cylindrical cactus that can produce heads 16 inches high and 3-1/2 inches around. The hooked spines are a beautiful copper color that fades to pale yellow with age. The 1/2 inch diameter flowers are a deep magenta and occur in a ring around the crown of the plant. The plant is reported to grow quickly and form wide mounds, so a wide pot or suitably large area in the garden is a must.
I'm going to pick a suitable spot in the garden for this one. Sounds like it needs some room. Flower pics soon. It's allready budding in April.
