Melocactus matanzanus

From northern Cuba, Melocactus matanzanus is the most diminutive member of the Melocactus species at only 3 inches around at maturity. For this reason it is commonly called Dwarf Turks Cap. In mid summer it produces small pink flowers followed by pale pink tear drop shaped fruit. I got this one at a Tucson Cacti and Succulent Society sale. It is fully grown, sporting a nicely developed cephalium that was loaded with fruit. Hopefully I can grow some from seed.

Cehalium and flower details. Note the mature fruit popping out.
