Orocereus celsianus
"Old Man of the Andes"

My Oreocereus celsianus

Found in the mountains of Peru, Bolivia and northern Argentina, Orocereus celsianus is a stout branching columnar to 10 feet tall with stems 5 inches in diameter. It is very variable and has several forms. It is not quite as furry as other Oreocereus so needs to be acclimatized to full sun. It is also thicker spined than most others. On mature specimens pink to purple tubular flowers are produced in summer.
I got this big one last fall and have several smaller ones allready in the garden. I will probably dig them up and plant them together with this one in a cluster.
