Orocereus trolli
"Old Man of the Mountain"

My Oreocereus trolli

Found in the mountains of Bolivia and Argentina, Orocereus trolli is a slowly clumping columnar cacti to 2 feet high. It is covered in beautiful snow white fur from which long golden spines protrude. On mature specimens red or pink tubular flowers are produced in summer.
I only have this one O. trolli but I'm keeping my eye out for more. I would like to plant a small cluster of them in the garden in a nice sunny spot. I've red that if the fur gets dirty you can wash it with a mild shampoo. Haha, can you imagine that? The neighbors will think I'm nuts!
