Pilosocereus glaucescens

Native to Brazil, Pilosocereus glaucescens is a beautiful slender blue branching columnar cactus that in the wild grows up to 20 feet in height and 6-8 feet in spread. The fuzzy areoles and tiny golden spines are a nice contrast to the sky blue body. In spring and summer, nocturnal 4 to 6 inch white flowers with greenish tints are produced freely at the stem tips. Orange fruits follow.
      P. glaucescens needs adequate water and fertilizer in spring and summer to maintain the rich blue color. It likes full sun to light shade but blooms best with as much sun as possible. Like all pilosocereus it is not very cold hardy and should be protected when temps dip below freezing.
