Aenomium "Schwartzkopf"

Considered a cultivar of A. manriqueorum which is native to the Canary Islands, Aeonium "Schwartzkopf" Is a gorgeous purple leaved species. The leaves are so dark they can be almost black grown in strong light. in too much shade the color fades. It is a large plant reaching a height of 3 feet and spread of 4 feet. In summer it produces tall stalks of yellow flowers and then the rosettes that flowered die. Over time the plant can become too tall and leggy. The main rosette can be taken off with a piece of stem and re-rooted. This also prevents the plant from reaching flowering size. The rest of the plant can be grown on as a nurse plant, the stump should produce more rosettes that can be used for propagation.
This is the one Aeonium I seem to be able to grow well. The plant pictured is about 16 inches tall and was about half that last spring. If it grows that fast this year I'm afraid I'll be beheading it by the end of summer. That's OK, I've allready sucessfuly rooted a cutting.
