Agave colorata "Mescal Seniza"

From the states of Sonora and Sinaloa, Mexico,
Agave colorata is a small to medium sized Agave with wickedly toothed leaves and the interestig impressions
of adjacent leaves top and bottom. There are two varieties, one that gets to 4 foot across and 4 foot high,
and another with shorter wider leaves that only get to 2 feet across. I hope and beleive I have the smaller variety.
It will offset in time and takes about 15 years to flower. Like other Agaves, the main rosettes dies after flowering
and the pups carry on the lineage. It's reported to be avery cold tolerant Agave, taking temperatures down to 17 degrees.
This is a nice small one from B & B Cactus Farm. It will go in the yard in a suitable place
next year. I've read it's a slow grower, which suits me fine. I can't keep up with the Agave zebra.
