Anacampseros rufescens "Love Plant"

From the Karoo region of South Africa, Anacampseros rufescens forms rosettes of smooth succulent leaves about 4 inches tall and two inches around. It branches readily eventually forming a small clump. In time it forms a tuberous root system and the stems form curly white hairs between the leaves. It flowers in spring and summer off and on and the 5 petaled pink blooms are about 1 to 1-1/2 inches across. The normal form is a dark green tending toward red or purple in strong light. Above is the popular variegated form commonly known as the "Love Plant". In fact the word Anacampseros comes form an ancient word for an herb said to restore lost love.
These plants are touch and go for me, they are fairly tender and get hurt by the heat and cold. But they always come back with some water. The one above is actually doing pretty well. Desert Tropicals claims the plant is dormant in summer but with water mine seem to grow year round. Click below for pictures of the flowers.
