Gasteria armstrongii

Gasteria armstrongii is an odd and rare species, found only in the vicinity of Humansdorp, in South Africas Eastern Cape Province. It was recently considered a variety of G. nitida but now is classified a seperate species. It's growth habit is fairly unique among Gasterias, in that the leaves are nearly horizontal. The short thick leaves are usually a solid green or even brown color with no tubercules, but some clones (like mine) have some spotting.
I got this one in fall 2005 from Miles2go. It overwintered in my greenhouse without a problem and is slowly growing. It's lost it's brown color though. The first picture below is what it looked like when I first got it. The next picture is a beautiful example of a mature specimen taken at Arid Lands. It looks like it's sculpted in chocolate.
