Sansevieria cylindrica

A Sansevieria cylindrica in my collection

Another plant I can find little information on except that the leaves can top 4 feet! Mine are allready about two feet long and the plant spreads 3 feet wide. One thing I did read is that there are two growth forms, one with leaves that are straight and the other, like mine, has curved leaves. I'm sure there are also some cultivars. Strangely it seems to bloom in winter. This one had a flower stalk when I first got it last fall. It slowly grew to be almost as tall as the plant. Below is a picture of it in my greenhouse about midwinter. Unfortunately the flowers are short lived and open at night, so no flower closeups for this one. All I can say is they were very dainty and a pinkish white. Another interesting thing to note, the plant seems to be self fertile. I only have one and I doubt there was another flowering anywhere near in the neighborhood. But about mid April, I had a few fruits! The dumbbell shaped orange fruit is actually a thin fleshy covering over a peanut shaped seed. I even got one seed to sprout, too bad the others were duds. The sprout is still with me but hardly photogenic at this time. One of the danged Thrashers got to it!
